Recently, JARN seized an opportunity to interview Gaurang Pandya, president, UTC Climate, Controls & Security, Asia Pacific. On that occasion, Mr. Pandya talked about his company's environmental sustainable solutions such as chillers with low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants and green building business in China. JARN (J): How about the sales situation of your oil-free two stage centrifugal chillers using low-pressure HFO-1233zd(E) refrigerant? Does this product target the United States where refrigerant regulation is severe, or China? Gaurang Pandya (P): The popularity of the two-stage AquaEdge 19DV centrifugal chiller comes as no surprise to us. It uses HFO-1233zd(E), an environmentally sustainable refrigerant with an ultra-low GWP and A1-rated safety classification per ASHRAE standard 34. Its advanced technologies and superior design have been well-received in Asia as well as other parts of the world due to the significantly improved efficiency, extended operating envelope, lower operating noise, and higher lift capabilities. Carrier's pioneering falling film evaporator design for HFO-1233zd(E) leads to significantly less refrigerant charge, and superior efficiency performance of up to 7.0 Cooling Coefficient of Performance (COP_R) full-load and 11.8 Integrated Part Load Value (IPLV.IP) at standard AHRI conditions.
