The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, along with Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) of the United States and Mission Innovation of Europe, announced eight finalists of the Global Cooling Prize (GCP) on November 15 in New Delhi. The GCP is an international innovation competition to incentivize the development of a residential cooling solution that has one-fifth climate impact as compared to the typical residential air conditioners sold in the Indian market today. The GCP was launched in November 2018 by the union minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Harsh Vardhan. The GCP is administered by RMI, Conservation X Labs, Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) from India, and CEPT University from Ahmedabad (India), and supported by a coalition of over 20 leading international non-profit organizations.
