Synthesis of Tertiary 1-Naphthylamines via the Enamine

A series of tertiary 1-naphthylamines ahs been synthesised by the reaction of 1-tetralone with secondary amines. The intermediate enamines are aromatised by treatment with palladium on charcoal in a high-boiling solvent, preferably limonene.
