The Hayvalley herd, Liskeard, Cornwall, averages more than 13,000kg of milk at 3.93% fat and 3.3%protein and has a 384-day calving interval. The family-run business is at the forefront of 21st century technology, having invested in a fully robotic milking system in 2015.David Renfree and his wife Nicola took over the ownership of Hayvalley Farm in 2009, having purchased an initial 23 hectares (56 acres) of the original family farm.David already owned 30 cows which were then housed on a neighbouring farm, and decided to purchase and install a second-hand Lely A2 robot at Hayvalley.
