The 'Turosl' experimental consulting programme

Research into the role of experimental consulting programmes in preparing farmers for the forms of group co-operation has shown that advisory services and education are very important in the development of enterprise and co-operative movement amongthe residents of rural areas. The article describes the role of a modernisation project devised for dairy farms in Turosl in the development of dairy cooperatives in the former Lomza province. The "Project of Development of Private Dairy Farms" was launched at the initiative of the Dutch consulting company, International Dairy Consultants BV in 1989. The whole agricultural sector grapples with serious problems occurring along the road leading from the farmer--producer to the end user of agricultural products. The project focused on the first link of the chain, that is private farms as the suppliers of raw materials. The aim of the project was to introduce new technologies into a definite number of traditional farms which, combined with support in the form of advice, led to their specialisation in the production of milk and its increased production and, consequently, to profitable market production of dairy goods of desirable quality.
