Duplex materials have been around for a long time. They are used in the chemical and petrochemical industries, particularly where chloride-bearing solutions necessitate corrosion resistance. However, a new, proprietary, hyper-duplex stainless steel (UNS S32707) can be used as an alternative to established duplex grades and high-nickel (Ni) alloys. Using hyper-duplex stainless-steel grades presents several advantages, both in terms of superior mechanical properties and resistance to damage. The chief benefits can be summarized as: higher yield strength, superior tensile strength, greater hardness compared with austenitic grades and better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
