Since ancient times, disputes over images have been central in religious and political history. Centuries ago, wars over the power of images, known as ikons, raged dividing Chris- .. tianity and the Muslim world. Further to the east in Hindu nations, men embraced images of avatars to help guide them through life's stressful conflicts. In times of change, when threatened from without or within, it is human nature to seek solace in images . Now, as imagers, we find ourselves at a crucial juncture-a tipping point-where once again, image worship arises, this time in our medical world. It will change medicine forever.
