Publication in Biomedical Journals: An Example-Based Tutorial Series-Part I

We just completed an exhaustive ew of potential duplication dealing with two original research manuscripts. Because of the increasing mumber of potential misconduct issues, we have decided to provide a series of tutorials regarding publication ethics. It is clear to me that not all publication ethics violations are knowingly accomplished, but more often the rules provided by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) (www.icmje.org) are poorly understood. In order to provide optimal, easy-to-understand approaches, our editorial series will deal with the most common ethical publishing problems. Each editorial will discuss a specific ethical issue. An example will be provided so that the issue is clear to our readers. The example will be followed by a discussion of the rules and options for authors.
