One of the most important tasks in my first year as editor in chief of the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR) was to transform the previous journal structure into a new distributed editorship model. The goal was to optimize subspecialty expertise in each of the new sections by selecting experts as section editors and providing a more solid base by adding assistant editors who provide additional expertise [1]. Section editors were appointed for 3-year renewable terms and assistant editors for 2-year renewable terms. Each section editor was given significant primary responsibility for his or her section, including selecting their assistant editors with final approval by the editor in chief. The distributed editor approach has served us well over the past 5 years. The section editors and assistant editors are always included on the masthead page in each journal issue. In the July 2008 issue of the AJR, the initial 12 sections included the following:
