Section editor's notebook: Focus on musculoskeletal imaging

This is an exciting time in hip imaging, with newly emerging clinical diagnoses and evolving imaging techniques. Two articles focus on hip impingement. Impingement syndromes are now increasingly recognized as a significant cause of hip pain. Recognition and understanding of these entities are important in diagnosing hip abnormalities to prevent improper or unnecessary treatment. David Rubin [1] from Mallinckrodt Institute discusses femoroacetabular impingement. Femoroacetabular impingement was first described only 12 years ago, and has specific clinical and imaging characteristics [2, 3].
