According to figures from the UN's International Narcotics Control Board, the UK is the world's largest producer of legal cannabis. The UK is responsible for nearly half of global production, mostly used in the drug Sativex (see box) and grown for supplier GW Pharmaceuticals at an undisclosed location. This, however, forms just part of a burgeoning globalmarket for medicinal cannabis products that is driving production of the crop into the horticultural mainstream.
