Peri-urban woodlands are a valuable but underutilised resource for dog-owners and their pets that could play a greater part in the health of both, according to research carried out for Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) with The Kennel Club and Scottish health partnership Paths for All.Based on surveys of "less active" dog-owners and focus groups with owners of different activity levels, the research found that 38 per cent of those surveyed were aware of their local urban woodland and just 11 per cent have visited it, despite most strongly believing that regular woodland walks would keep both themselves and their dogs fit and healthy.
