The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in parks, gardens and sports facilities up and down the country reducing or even abandoning turf maintenance tasks and grass cutting. What will it mean for the landscape and what are the implications for sports inthe future?With municipal mowing being one of the first activities axed or drastically reduced by many councils, plant charity Plantlife is predicting a boost in wildflowers where councils have stopped mowing verges and parks. Large areas converting to meadows could be attractive, certainly to pollinators. But such areas will require completely different maintenance, with emphasis on an annual cut and removal of all cuttings.
