Husbandry and Breeding of the Baja Blue Rock Lizard (Petrosaurus thalassinus) at the Arizona Center for Nature Conservation's Phoenix Zoo

The Baja Blue Rock Lizard or San Lucan Rock Lizard (Petrosaurus thalassinus) is native to the southernmost tip of Baja California Sur, Mexico, where it is generally found inhabiting rocky areas (McPeek 2000; Grismer 2002). The species was described as primarily herbivorous, but it was noted that it also probably consumes insects (Stebbins 1985). Although the species probably only occurs in a very restricted area of less than 5,000 km2, it is apparently common in preferred habitat of this area and thus listed as Least Concern by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List (Hollingsworth and Frost 2007).
