摘要

Jane Hart: How did you first become interested in integrative oncology? Gary E. Deng: First of all, some of my medical training was in China, where a lot of people use natural therapies for their health and focus on diet, exercise, and mind-body therapies as part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) approach. So, I was exposed to that very early in my career. Although I was trained in a Western medical school, I took courses in integrative medicine and found that approach appealing. Especially in clinical practice, I see that integrative medicine helps a lot of people with chronic conditions, and there is an emphasis on self-care and patients learning to take care of themselves. So, that was my initial exposure.
