A few years ago, we took over warehouse premises that already had a large racking system installed. Since then, it has never been inspected or checked. Would simple visual inspection on a regular basis be enough? What is the recommended procedure? It's all too easy for warehouse racking to sustain damage that can reduce its load bearing capacity. Being struck by a forklift truck or repeated overloading could impair its strength, leading to catastrophic failure and collapse. Every year, avoidable deaths (and prosecutions) are caused by racking failures.
