ColdHubs social enterprise is crowned first CaaS prizewinner

Swiss-based not-for-profit foundation BASE (Basel Agency for Sustainable Energy) has announced the inaugural winner of its CaaS (Cooling as a Service) Prize, aimed at stimulating new models for sustainable cooling. The group has launched the prize to highlight the opportunities in what could become a market with a value of $1.5bn over the next 10 years. The winner, ColdHubs, is a Nigerian social enterprise that uses a simple CaaS model, which it calls 'pay-as-you-store', to enable farmers i to pay for cold storage for food without having to sign a long-term contract. The ColdHubs business may be familiar to RAC readers, having won a Cooling Award for International Achievement in 2018.
