Global demand outlook

The rig outlook in Asia-Pacific for 2022 is looking weak as many operators have yet to plan so far ahead, and most cancelled demand has been at best deferred until 2021. In Southeast Asia, semi demand currently averages 1.0 units for 2022, down from over two units that are expected to work over both this year and 2021. In the Far East, demand is forecast to remain stable at about 10.3 units, as long as demand in China does not slacken. For drillships, Far East demand is anticipated to stay at 1.0 unit for 2022, as the lone unit, Japanese drillship Chikyu, is not expected to undertake any overseas project. In Southeast Asia, the number of working drillships is currently estimated to fall to just 0.5 units in 2022, from an average demand of 1.5 units this year.
