Global oversupply will mount in May or June,when Russia's Novatek opens the fourth train at Yamal LNG in the Arctic,selling its 900,000 tons per year of output into the spot market.The train was originally scheduled to open by March and the delays have allegedly been caused by problems with some of the Russian-made kit.The train will be the first to use all-Russian equipment and liquefaction technology,and independent reports claim the gas pipes have had to be replaced after design flaws left them unable to cope with freezing Arctic temperatures.But Novatek Deputy CEO Mark Gyetvay tells Energy Intelligence that the delays were largely because the company carried out extra equipment tests to ensure its patented Arctic Cascade liquefaction technology will stand the test of time.
