As 2019 dawns, it could well be remembered as the year that many of Europe's leading oil and gas producers became serious about solar. As Europe's majors rethink their businesses to take account of climate pressures, many are developing "Big Energy" models based on building out integration between natural gas and power, including renewable energy. And judging by their moves into solar photovoltaics (PV), Royal Dutch Shell, BP and Equinor intend to make hay while the sun shines. All found their solar feet last year and could well increase their footprint this year.
