Venting, Flaring Rises in North Dakota and Texas

Te volume of U.S. natural gas that was reported as vented and fared reached its highest average annual level at 1.28 Bcfd in 2018, according to the Energy Infor- mation Administration’s (EIA) Natural Gas Annual. Te publication contains updated data regarding vented and fared gas. In 2018, the percentage of U.S. natural gas that was vented and fared rose to 1.25% of gross withdraw- als, up from 0.84% the previous year. Two states, North Dakota and Texas, accounted for 1.1 Bcfd, or 82%.
