This paper will have a look to the global and European market for halogen-free flame retardant (HFFR or LSOH) cables. Flame retardants like ATH, MDH or borates and new developments like nanocomposites or ceramifyable compounds are described. Also the new European Construction Product Regulation (CPR) for cables is outlined. Beside PVC, which is still the most used polymer within the global cable industry, an interesting market especially in Europe has been established. This market is based on halogen-free flame retardant (HFFR) cables, which are also named as low-smoke zero-halogen (LSOH) cables. The markets, used flame retardants and also the new European classification for flame retardant cables by the European Construction Product Regulation (CPR) will be outlined in the following.
