It's a long time - some 35 years, in fact - since we've seen a pristine good-as-new Mk 1 GTI in a Volkswagen showroom, but Simon McNamara recently re-lived the experience for the launch of the Mk 7.5 Golf at JCT 600 in Rotherham... SOME OF YOU reading this issue may have been lucky enough to walk into a VW showroom in the early 80's to admire the Mk 1 Golf when it was brand-new. Fast-forward 35 years to my local VW dealership, JCT 600 in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, where I was recently given the opportunity for my Lhasa green Mk 1 GTI to re-live that experience, in a modern sort of way, over the weekend of July 15-16.
