Founded by Richard Fletcher in 1982, skip hire firm Fletchers Metals and Waste Recycling (FMWR) originally processed scrap metal. However in more recent times, it has seen a greater focus on recycling, comprising mainly C&D, general dry waste and a small amount of hazardous material. With recent growth having seen throughput increase from around 3500 to 8000 tonnes per month, the company decided to upgrade its equipment. First in line was a purpose-built TEREX* FuchsTWH 226 Waste Handler fitted with a 5-tine grab and featuring a 10.7 m reach. Following the purchase of the Waste Handler, FMWR made the decision to invest further acquiring a Tracked TDS 820 Slow Speed Shredder and a Wheeled TTS 620 Trommel for its processing operation. Feed for the shredder originates from a pre-sort system, where incoming waste is tipped in the yard, and is then processed through a big static trammel. The heavy material goes to a picking line, where material is hand-picked and the remainder sent to the new TEREX TDS 820 Slow Speed Shredder for processing down to 150 mm in one pass. The TDS 820 is an aggressive, slow-speed shredder suitable for all types of material and capable of processing difficult material in one pass down to 150 mm. Customisable shredding programmes allow FMWR to configure the machine to its specific requirements, reducing wrappage and maximising production.
