THE COMBINATION of increasing demand for MOTs and stricter test criteria look likely to create a boom in demand at garages and for tyres in particular. After years of post-financial crisis scrappage schemes and investment, the UK car industry got used to boomtimes and consecutive year-on-year growth. Demand hit the brakes during 2018 largely due to uncertainty caused by Brexit. But the good news is that the tyre and aftermarket industry is set to experience increased demand for its services as many cars bought as new towards to the top of the market three years ago come in for their first MOT.
