MADAGASCAR: Base Resources Anticipates Long-Term Rising Trend for Ilmenite Prices

A good standard grade zircon (containing 65.6% ZrC>2 and HfCh) will be produced at Ranobe. This would be suitable for most end-use sectors, but the relatively high radioactive content may limit its market potential in the US, Japan and various other markets. The long-term production profile for Toliara Sands-averaged over the total 33 years' of mine-life-is envisaged as: 366,000 t.p.a. of sulfatable ilmenite; 212,000 t.p.a. of ilmenite suitable for smelting; 203,000 t.p.a. of chlorinatable ilmenite; 53,000 t.p.a. of zircon; and 7000 t.p.a. of rutile. Target output levels during the early years of operation will be higher than these long-term averages.
