Council for Responsible Nutrition President and CEO Steve Mister says NPA’s book is an “ambitious” project and should be commended. “What’s going to be important is how FDA receives it. We’ve spent our efforts trying to work with FDA on developing what is the criteria for determining that something is on the market. How much evidence is necessary, how specific does evidence have to be on the ingredient?” said Mister in an interview He said documentation and other strong evidence an ingredient was on the market pre-DSHEA may not be enough for FDA.
