It is almost time to start opening the hives and for those going to winter oilseed rape, it will most likely be sometime this month. Many of our last year's beginners got bees over the summer, and have been nursing along those bees in the hope of getting them through the winter and ready for an early crop. If they survived, you may have to open them this month, although that is totally weather dependent and a cold snap in March could easily wipe out a weak stock.
