Fabrication of novel multi-morphological metal-based infinite coordination polymers and preparation of PbS and ZnO nano- and microarchitectures

In this study, new coordination polymers nanostructures were prepared from M2+ (M = Zn or Pb) ions and a bithioglycolate functionalized salen (MPS) building block via a simple precipitation process. The final Zn-BITS-Zn particle size measured about 50-60 nm. Field emission scanning electron microscopy analysis of Pb-BITS-Pb detected uniform microspheres with a diameter of 2 mu m comprising several sticking nanoflakes. Hydrothermal treatment of the BITS building block and lead acetate yielded an unexpected PbS product with a dendritic structure and larger band gap compared with the bulk counterpart. In addition, the calcination of Zn-BITS-Zn produced uniform ZnO nanoparticles with a larger band gap.
