Year-on-year GDP growth slowed for the third consecutive quarter in the Middle East, falling to 3.1% from Q1 2012 levels of 3.6%. Meanwhile in Africa, GDP growth remained stable at last quarter's levels and at high year-on-year rates of increase. Steel plate consumption increased marginally in the Middle East with some pick up in market activity ahead of the festive season of Ramadan that started in July. Meanwhile in Africa, consumption fell marginally with some drop in consumption in South Africa.
