To escape his studio,artist Steve McPherson beachcombs for marine plastic in Epple Bay and Westgate Bay.Whatever he finds is raw material.A typical McPherson artwork gathers the tiny things we discard every day,that wash ashore,to build up a picture of how we live now."It's 21st century archaeology,"he says.McPherson grew up near North Kent's beaches.In 2005,he started to collect washed-up plastic to create artworks.His tactile pieces create order from detritus from our throwaway consumer culture-and hammer home the scale of the problem with marine-plastic waste.
