摘要

Autumn-winter 2019-2020 was one of the wettest on record, with three successive storms-Ciara,Dennis and Jorge-disrupting swathes of the UK.And those storms followed the seventh wettest summer recorded in the UK since 1910.The storms flooded hundreds of homes and businesses, forcing many to evacuate, disrupting thousands of peoples’lives and killing at least four.Unfortunately, the risks from flooding are likely to increase significantly with climate change. The 2017 UK Climate Change Risk Assessment names flooding as the most important climate-change adaptation challenge facing the UK.The Committee on Climate Change predicts that the population at risk of flooding may increase by up to 40 per cent.
