BASF Plant Science has dropped plans to field test genetically modified potatoes with resistance to late blight(Phytophthora infestans)in Ireland this year.The Irish EPA approved the proposed I ha field trial at Arodstown,County Meath(Agrow No 490,p 8),but imposed a number of conditions.BASF would be required to conduct regular monitoring and reporting to the Agency.It would also be required to fund independent studies examining possible impacts on biodiversity,pollen flow to adjacent crops and the survival of GM tubers.
