In recent years, we have seen an increasing blurring of the boundaries between skin care and colour cosmetics in terms of product formats, benefits, and claims. This certainly has not been lost on ingredient manufacturers, with a noticeable trend of traditionally skin care-oriented active ingredients being repositioned, and in cases re-tested, specifically targeting use in colour cosmetics. The aim of this article is to explore and discuss examples of skin care ingredients that are being positioned for colour cosmetics, many of which have bespoke performance data. INCIs and descriptive wording associated with each ingredient mentioned in this article is taken from the respective manufacturer's marketing information. For full information about any study data referenced within the text, and for details of exact compositions (including preservative options), please contact the relevant suppliers.
