Principles of safe waste management as a factor of environmental safety

Fires in landfills on the postindustrial areas at Zgierz and at Trzebinia, Poland, were presented. The legal status of waste storage and reasons of the fires were performed. The effects of release of large amts. of harmful substances produced by the incineration of municipal and hazardous waste to the atmosphere, soil and water were also studied.
