ISO 9001-have we lost our way?

ISO 9001 is a direct descendant of external auditing standards, created by major purchasers as a tool to pre-qualify potential suppliers. It has never had any other viable role because it's incomplete. For example, it doesn't mention satisfying proprietors seeking a return, or the people they employ needing work. Along with customers, these are the only truly 'interested parties', as per clause 4.2 in the 2015 edition.
