This essay reviews W. Barnett Pearce's career, highlighting the places that he helped flourish as scholarly dwellings, his groundbreaking scholarship, and his unique contributions to philosophy of communication. Pearce's career countered education fixated on information alone; he united the practical, the philosophical, and the fundamental importance of human meaning in his study and application of communication. His teaching and scholarship announced the pragmatic importance of philosophy of communication engaged in response to the problems before us.
