India has long been an attraction for the academic scholarship. This scholarship was initiated by European researchers and later their theories and interpretations dominated the analysis of Indian culture. Although few Indian scholars resented their interpretations, there was hardly any serious theoretical and empirical work carried out from within India. This book by Jai B.P. Sinha is one of the few attempts that shows how Indian mindset is complex enough not to be caricatured by simplistic and dichotomous Western cultural notions. The present article is an essay on the work "Psycho-Social Analysis of the Indian Mindset" by Jai B.P. Sinha. The article proposes the need to revisit Western frameworks and culture-specific theories. This process should be accompanied by extensive study of Indian thought and history without which the arguments would remain infertile.
