Draft legislation considering penalties for the illegal sale of pesticides has reached the Brazilian upper house Senate social affairs commission. The proposal of Senator Humberto Costa provides for three to six years' imprisonment as well as fines. The draft bill, PLS 438/2011, would amend previous legislation and includes an article setting what procedures characterise the criminal act of production, export, import, sale or storage of unregistered pesticides.
