摘要

Each vegetable crop needs specific climatic conditions to manifold its production potential. To achieve production potential and quality of end produce, it is essential to create an optimum climate for growing period. In this direction, poly-net househas been evolved to create favourable microclimate under which crop production could be possible throughout the year or part thereof, as desired. Under these protected structures, harvesting span is prolonged due to modification of climatic condition. Presently, there is a great concern regarding pesticide use in vegetables.Cultivation of vegetables under poly-net houses will help minimize the insect-pest attack and ultimately reduce the pesticide use in vegetables. Recently, the Department of Vegetable Science, PAU, Ludhiana, has released a seedless parthenocarpic cucumbervariety 'Punjab Kheera-1' for cultivation in poly-net house only. The role of parthenocarpic cucumber hybrids/varieties in increasing the production and productivity of poly-net house grown cucumber is well recognized in the world. The higher yield potential of parthenocarpic cucumber is due to the fact that pollination is not a pre-requisite for fruit set as it is in seeded cucumber.
