Irrigation management of rabi and spring season crops

Irrigation water management is an important aspect of agriculture. How to irrigate? When to irrigate? How much to irrigate? are the frequent questions asked by the farmers to experts. The information regarding irrigation management has been provided by Punjab Agricultural University in the 'Package of Practices for Rabi Crops'. The irrigation scheduling is, thus, an imperative feature that should be followed by every farmer for judicious use of good quality water and brackish ground water for irrigation purpose as both the excess and scarcity of water can affect the growth and development, ultimately, reducing the crop yield. In each crop, a few critical stages have been identified at which moisture stress can lead to irretrievable yield loss.
