Quick delivery secures major heat exchanger order

A MAJOR order for small-diameter, seamless, stainless steel heat exchanger tubes has been won by Sandvik Materials Technology. Valued at 750,000 pounds, the order was placed by fabricator Wellman Graham, part of the Wellman Group, and covered tubes for 12 large heat exchangers for a sulphur expansion recovery project in an Eastern European refinery. The project was undertaken to upgrade existing carbon steel units with stainless steel, and needed to be completed on a very tight delivery schedule, requiring the first set of tubes to be delivered for fabrication within five weeks of order placement. Sandvik was able to meet the first delivery and' the continuing requirements, and improved on the final scheduled delivery by three weeks. This enabled Wellman Graham to fabricate and deliver to site within the required timescale - a key factor in securing the order. The heat exchangers were manufactured on the Wellman Thermal Products site at Oldbury in the West Midlands.
