Last month we reported on the elimination of the S232 tariffs for steel products fromCanada as part of the USMCA agreement. As far as the effect on pipe & tube goes, just prior tothe S232 going into effect, Canadian pipe exports to the US were approximately 104k tons permonth. The most recent average monthly rate is just below 84k tons per month. This simplisticanalysis suggests that the S232 cut about 20k tpm from Canada’s export volume to the US.However, large diameter line pipe shipments actually increased in the post S232 period by 27ktpm which indicates the imports in other products were affected by a larger amount.
