Boiler explosion at Hyogo Pulp mill in Japan hits unbleached softwood kraft pulp supply

A key unbleached softwood kraft (USK) pulp supplier to China, Hyogo Pulp, stopped production abruptly at its sole mill in Japan following a recovery boiler blast. The incident occurred at its 200,000 tonne/ yr plant in Tanba city, Hyogo prefecture, Japan, on August 29, shuttering the facility. No casualties have been reported. The company told its clients that the stoppage is likely to last for two to three months.
