In the present work attempt were made to induce genetic variability for yield contributing traits in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merill] by employing EMS and Gamma rays. The germplasms of soybean cultivar MACS 450 was procured from Agharkar Research Institute, Pune Maharashtra. The uniform presoaked seed of soybean were treated with different concentrations of EMS (10,20,30 and 40 mM) for 08 hrs and dry seeds were irradiated with different doses (100, 200, 300 and 400Gy) of gamma rays at Government Institute of Science, Aurangabad. Treated as well as untreated seeds were sown in the experimental field in RBD during kharif season in the spacing of 45 x 15 cm to raise M-1 population. Seeds threshold from individual M-1 plants were sown in the kharif season to raise M-2 generation. M-2 population was screened seems from the first day of emergnece of the seedlings up to the harvesting for phenotypic variability in yield contributing traits. Different yield contributing traits such as plant height, number of branches, number of nodes, seeds per plant, seed yield per plant and 100 seed weight were studied in M-2 generation. The experimental finding revealed that concentrations/doses of both the mutagens showed promotary effects on plant height, number of branches per plant, number of nodes per plant, number of pods per plant, seed yield per plant and 100 seed weight as counter part to control. No significant change was recorded in number of seeds per pod in both treated and control population.
