EU paints and coatings companies likely to have access to new €15bn EU research fund

The European Union(EU)paint and coatings sector will be offered research funding from a €15bn budget for industrial,space and digital sector studies from 2021-2027 under the Horizon Europe research programme.This €94.1 bn total programme has now been approved in principle by the European Parliament and the EU Council of Ministers,with final authorisations anticipated after the European elections in May.The European Commission is confident the programme will be authorised,however,and is already preparing its implementation,so that initial draft work programmes will be ready by its launch on January 1,2021.As with past EU research programmes,paint and coatings,energy companies and researchers will need to form themselves into international consortia to suggest ideas for research and development projects that fit detailed priorities to be released by the Commission,possibly by this December(2019).
