PE: To producers, European PE markets were too subdued in December, and most of them were unable to pass on the rise in the C2 reference. Occasionally, however, they did manage to secure smaller increases. Surpluses from autumn have mostly disappeared, but the majority of customers were well stocked, and therefore in a position to use delay tactics. In the new year, sellers will step up their efforts to push through increases. With costs stagnating, they will try to recover lost margins. In January, they could record their first small successes in many areas since product surpluses have declined.
