UK packaging company plans to exit plastics business

After completing a "strategic review" that started in summer 2018,packaging group DS Smith(London/UK;www.dssmith.com)is now aiming to sell its relatively small plastic packaging segment.In the group's annual report for the first half of fiscal 2018/2019,the division has already been classified as discontinued.Its plastics business continued to perform well,with sales up 2% at GBP 182m(EUR 203m),while short-term profits were impacted by higher polymer prices.EBITDA shrank to GBP 14m(from GBP 20m in the first half of 2017/2018).The plastics segment consists of four divisions -Flexible Packaging and Dispensing Solutions,Rigid Packaging,Foam Products and Injection Products(refillable beverage boxes,trays and pallets).
