Excerpts of the Address of Mr. Shaker Nagarajan, Vice-Chairman, The Planters' Association of Tamil Nadu, at the 65th Annual Conference held on 15th October 2018 at Coimbatore

The annual conference is not only an occasion for all of us to meet but more importantly it is an occasion to see what is happening in the industry. In India, the Plantation crops of tea, coffee, rubber and cardamom are cultivated in 19 lakh hectaresby about 18 lakh growers, providing employment, both direct and indirect, to 24 lakh people, a majority of whom are women. The value of plantation crops accounts for nearly, 2 percent of our country's total agricultural GDP. Export earnings from plantation crops are to the tune of Rs. 13,000 Crores.
