Brazil OKs BASF/Embrapa GM soybeans

Brazil has provisionally approved the commercial release of the "first Brazilian" genetically modified crop. The national technical commission for biosafety, the CTNBio, granted the go-ahead for the imidazolinone herbicide-tolerant soybeans jointly developed by BASF and the Brazilian agricultural research corporation, the Embrapa. They have been hailed as "100% Brazilian". The approval requires ratification from the 11-Ministry national biosafety council, the CNBS. It should issue its decision within 60 days.
